As avid readers of Garage Wire online and on the back of the launch of our ‘Fire Cloak’ Electric Vehicle Fire Blanket, we’ve been following the story the magazine has covered detailing Volkswagen Group’s recall of 10,000 hybrid cars over fire risk concerns.
Part of a global recall including at least 100,000 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), the company’s four key brands – Audi, VW, Cupra Seat and Skoda – were all affected.
Instigated following reports of 16 incidents involving fires in hybrid cars on Germany’s road network, the issue appears to be related to an “insufficiently insulated high-voltage battery”. As a precautionary measure, all of the recalled Volkswagen Group PHEVs will have insulated matting installed around the battery array.
